Shad Perlich at Traditional Tattoo

956 Foothill Blvd., ste C, SLO

Ever wanted a Dali, a Picasso, a Kahlo? On your foot? How about your back? Shad Perlich brings some serious legitimacy to the term tattoo artist emphasis on "artist" with his bachelor's degree in art and philosophy. His style is realistic, yet painterly, which is perhaps why his detailed designs of animals, machines, and otherworldly creatures have appeared in dozens of monthly magazines and why he has gotten a good chunk of business from referrals. If you want art and you want that art inked Best Of voters agree: Look to Shad.

Traditional Tattoo’s Shad Perlich has a thirst for improvement that’s made him a favorite among body-art enthusiasts on the Central Coast. While artistic fulfillment and satisfaction are two of the many reasons Perlich does so well, the artist doesn’t stagnantly revel in self-satisfaction. “I try to figure out how I could have done each tattoo better. I try not to bear down and be overly critical, but I do look at it and think to myself what could be done differently,” he said. Perlich has inked everything from “normal” to “extraordinary” pieces, and a few stand out.

“I once did two pieces of toast with one pat of butter, and the client was very specific about the color of the toast,” he said. “I also did a female pin-up riding a corndog, rodeo style, with ketchup and mustard.”
